FYI Tim Malchak appeared in Farm Aid 6

Tim was invited by Willie Nelson and Buddy Lee Attractions to appear in Farm Aid while recording his "Hometown" album at 1299onthehighway. The introduction was made after Guy Daniel of City Lights Recording Studios found Tim at the Hilton in Hilton Head South Carolina playing at pool side. Impressed with Tim's music and smooth vocal texture, Guy invited Tim to City Lights to make a great record. They did. The "Home town" album was released two weeks after Tim's brilliant performance in Farm Aid 6. Tim had more than 65 stations playing "Home town" the first week it appeared. It was in heavy rotation. Then a mishap. Landmark distributed the label Full House. Tim was the first Full House Records release. Then in mid stream, in the middle of a successful first release at radio, Landmark Distribution was forced to lose all, and left Full House Records, in a rough spot. No records were in stores. Landmark reps came to 1299onthehighway to explain their failure and introduced Full House Records to alternate sources of distribution. By this time the single's momentum was lost leaving Full House Records with the burden of the failures expense, and as independent labels sometimes do, Full House couldn't provide needed promotion to do the job again, making today a copy of Tim's Hometown album one of the most sought after pieces to Malchak fans. 1299onthehighway is proud to have Tim's Hometown album here... Home, right where it came from. And we hope we are providing the missing link for you Malchak fans. Enjoy!

Carl Davis at 1299onthehighway.com

Carl Davis is on board 1299onthehighway.com. He was born Carl H. Davis, September 19, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, where his father was a postal worker. He attended McCosh Elementary School and Englewood High School. He later earned a GED in 1954 and an associate's degree from Cortez College of Business in 1957. Davis began his radio career typing play-lists for popular Chicago disc jockey Al Benson on WGES Radio in 1955. He quickly earned a reputation as a "hitpicker." His success allowed him to join the marketing department of Arnold Distributors. In the early 1960s, Davis managed the Nat label and had a minor hit with "Nite Owl" by the DuKays. In 1962, he became a producer for Okeh Records. There, Davis discovered the legendary Gene Chandler and produced and co-wrote the "Duke of Earl" in 1962 and Major Lance's "Monkey Time" in 1963. Through his work, Davis created a Chicago sound with upbeat arrangements backed by musicians and arrangers like Johnny Pate and Sonny Sanders. A partnership with Curtis Mayfield resulted in hits for Major Lance, Billy Butler (Jerry's brother) and Walter Jackson. Meanwhile, Gene Chandler's "Rainbow," "Just Be True," and "Man's Temptation" were all hits. Davis produced the hit "Dear Lover" for Mary Wells and often hired Motown's Funk Brothers band. Davis was then hired by Brunswick Records where he produced Jackie Wilson's "Higher and Higher" and Barbara Acklin's "Love Makes A Woman." After forming Atlantic's Dakar Records, he produced the Chi-Lites and Tyrone Davis' "Turn Back the Hands of Time" and "Can I Change My Mind."
In the 70's He started his own label. Chi Sound Records, and has remained a driving force in the Chicago music scene. He still produces with genius.
He has eight grandchildren and still lives in Chicago. We are proud to have him on board as both producer and consultant to the 1299onthehighway.com artists.

Bonnie Pointer of the Pointer Sisters settled at City Lights Recording Studio for a time in the early 90's At that time Bonnie made great music with none other than Motown hit maker Jeffery Bowen. The music Bonnie made with Jeffery was fabulous. "One Track Mind" is from the City Lights Recording Studio Archives. It appears here in it's original form under the City Lights Recording Studio Artist profile. Take a listen, and see why this team was magic in this environment. Bonnie is still making music at City Lights Recording Studio from time to time. Like other fast moving artists with Personal Storms and a busy schedule, Bonnie came to us battered from the new music biz. She regrouped and started up her great career after figuring it out in our environment here at the studios at 1299onthehighway.com. She will always be welcomed here.
What's cool?

What's cool? I got a request from the cool admin at 1299 to post something... cool? My thought was ... what's cool? The smart *** in me is thinking, the weather, i.e. a cool front, a cool breeze just like today, a cool drink on a hot day, a swim in the pool to cool me off... Then, I start thinking how "cool" is actually a result of the demographics of the person ... such as gender, locale, age, ethnicity. Do "girls" and "guys" think the same things are "cool"? Not in all instances, I can assure you! I remember being a little girl and boys thinking it was "cool" to make farting sounds... trust me, the girls didn't think it was cool. Are "girly things" cool? A cool pair of stilettos? a hot dress? a new hairdo??? So, I am back to my original question... what's cool? I'm thinking I am in exile here in the suburbs, cool? You've gotta be kidding. Then, I think... well, Asbury Park is cool. I love the renaissance that is going on in the city. Of course, we still have the old favorites of the Stone Pony, The Saint, the Wonder Bar, but now we also have the new jazz club Chico's, Mcloone's Supper Club, Langosta Lounge to name a few new venues in the city. There also are a myriad of new fabulous restaurants and bars to entice any appetite. Cookman Avemue has it own special vibe now, a cool new theater for unusual films, art gallery, and shops. There is even a beautiful new boutique hotel on 7th Avenue "The Tides". I just love what has been done to the oceanfront and the boardwalk, and the mix of people in the city, no cookie-cutter people here, now that's cool
