1650 Broadway in New York

1650 Broadway... Where it all Started

1650 Broadway was built to be a musician's headquarters, so much so that the laws at the time required that the "front" door be placed on the side of the building due to laws restricting musicians from entering buildings from the front.

1650 Broadway houses many businesses related to the music industry: producers, publishers, agents, composers, and performers. In the late nineteen-fifties and early nineteen-sixties, this building was the birthplace of much R&B and Rock and Roll music.

Allegro Recording Studio was in the basement and Ruth Bowen's Queen Booking was on the top floor, and between them both on every floor were very highly regarded  music companies that defined the sound of popular RnB and Rock music of the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

Who's Bright Idea Was This?

admin Who's Bright Idea Was This?

Who's Bright Idea Was This? ...  "We will give the band tickets instead of money." How crazy is that! Bands don't sell tickets! VENUES sell tickets!

I would like to know what loser came up with that idea. That is the first clue to your getting screwed in the entertainment business. If a venue tells you that they will give you the equivalent to your price in tickets, tell them to "GO SCREW"!!! Artists have been taking the short end of the stick now for too long, and it has to stop somewhere. Not only does an artist or band have to come up with a great show, now they have to come up with an audience too? No! It doesn't happen that way in the real world! Venues should understand that it is not the artist or bands responsibility to sell tickets. The venue should sell the tickets. Bands have enough to think about. Any venue that pays in tickets is bogus.
